I think the only similarity between the Diesel and Witchery campaigns is that all the ladies featured were called Heidi

I think there were alot of similarities; both did not disclose that it was not real.

I guess the major difference was that Diesel Heidies were trying to entertain, rather than a genuine plea for help.

I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

I'm afraid I'm with Kate on this one, Jules. Heidies was intended to drive traffic to a standalone location (the Diesel website), it was live streamed with audience participation, and was clearly parody (or the girls would have been up on criminal charges!). One of it's other strengths was using content generated though the digital experience in store and in print catalogues - remains to be seen whether the other campaign will do that. Perhaps there is another similarity in that all three Heidies may have gone to the same acting school.

Nice work Jules! I think 'Lover' have it right. One thing that is interesting about social networking is the user's need to have connections to brands/apps/info that speak to their personality. It's in the vein of 'people will judge me based on what brands I associate myself with'. Fan pages always seem to work well for this appeal, whereby users can declare themselves a 'fan' of that brand. I think the big companies are missing out on what users are looking for in their content, and what the appeal will be - do users really make purchase decisions based on social networking apps, or do they want to associate themselves with the brand identity, sort of like a badge that displays 'this is who I am and this is what I buy'?
